Decauville System

These were models of the narrow gauge, using 9mm gauge track to a scale of 3.5 mm / foot. Originally there was only one loco, one toast-rack coach, one 4-wheeled tipper wagon and one bogie logging wagon in the range. They were based on the narrow gauge trains produced by the French Decauville factory.

In the final years of Playcraft these were supplemented by the addition of the Egger-Bahn range of models, which Jouef bought out in 1967. The range had its own mini catalogues for three years, the 1969 version incorporated a limited number of items and a price list. By 1970 the catalogue featured more of the Egger-Bahn range but this was destined to be the last one.

The original Decauville trains alongside a reduced range of Egger-Bahn items continued to be produced by Jouef for a number of years after the demise of the main Playcraft range. It was latterly known as 'un amour de petit train' or 'A cute little train' but had ceased to be included in the catalogues by the end of 1972. Much later in the late 1980's, some further examples were re-introduced but they were inferior to the originals .
